inspireUX site updates

inspireUX – One year anniversary!

Today marks inspireUX’s one year anniversary!  Thank you for all of your support over this past year.

I have a simple question for all of you that may help me guide this site in the future:

>> How do you use inspireUX quotes?

Do you follow them through the RSS feed or Twitter? Print them out and post them on your wall? Use them in presentations? Send them to friends or coworkers? Leave a comment, send me an email, or send me a tweet with your thoughts! Bonus points if you send me a photo of how you use the quotes.

Please keep submitting quotes.  With your support, I hope I can keep up with my current posting frequency for a long time to come.

Exciting inspireUX updates – quotes by author, slideshow, Balsamiq, and more

I am happy to announce a few welcome updates and additions to inspireUX:

  • View quotes by author: You now have the ability to filter quotes by author! Select the author’s name underneath the post title to find more quotes by that author or use the authors drop-down menu on the sidebar to view all available authors.
  • Updated gallery: New slideshow mode that allows for manual next/previous navigation and a better automatic play mode.
  • View similar quotes: Click on the title of any quote post to view related quotes.
  • Mobile friendly: inspireUX is now optimized as a mobile site for mobile phones (excluding the iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Opera Mini browsers – those will still display the full site).  Access from your mobile phone to access the mobile version.
  • Email subscription: You can now subscribe to inspireUX via email using this link or via the subscription link at the top of the sidebar.
  • Balsamiq Mockups: I have added a link to the great mockups tool Balsamiq Mockups in the sidebar.  Balsamiq has been very supportive of inspireUX and I’m very happy to show my support for their product in return.  Access inspireUX from Mockups using the “Help” menu for whenever you need inspiration!

I’d like to also take the opportunity to ask for your help in submitting quotes to inspireUX.  In order to keep up my current posting frequency of three times a week, I will need your help in finding inspirational user experience quotes.  If you submit a quote and ask to be credited, I will post your name and website following the quote.  In addition to helping me out, it’s a great way to get your name out there!

Thank you all for your continued support of inspireUX!

New inspireUX Quote Gallery!

Today’s quote marks the 100th inspireUX quote!  To celebrate, I have created a quote gallery as another method of browsing and reading all of inspireUX’s quotes.  You can browse through the quotes manually or view a slideshow.

Access the gallery here

Feedback is welcome!

Please help support inspireUX by submitting inspiring user experience quotes.  Without your help, I may soon run low on quotes to share with everyone.  Thanks for your continued support!

inspireUX in Balsamiq Mockups

Site Update: I’m pleased to announce that you can now access inspireUX within the great wireframing/prototyping product, Balsamiq Mockups.  You can access inspireUX via the “Help” menu for when you need some inspiration while using the program.

Please take a moment and look at Balsamiq Mockups.  It’s an interesting way of creating mockups that look like hand-drawn sketches with over 60 pre-built UI elements.  View Balsamiq Mockups’ blog post about the update here.

inspireUX Launched!

inspireUX gets to the root of what makes user experience designers so passionate about their work. Every interaction we have with a product or service produces an experience, whether it be a positive or negative one. That experience can significantly influence how you feel about the thing you are using and the company that made it. You can have the best technology in the world, the best business strategy, and all of the resources in the world, but if you can’t connect with your users and create a delightful experience, all of that is worthless.

I’ve realized that it’s really easy to get caught up in the details of design work, and to get frustrated with the roadblocks that can often make creating an ideal experience difficult. It’s easy to lose track of the ultimate goal in our work, which is to make people’s lives better in one way or another. As I read through various user experience books and articles, I become inspired by the words of those who advocate for users and remind us of the impact that user experience design has on our users and our business. I started to collect these “words of wisdom” and find myself referring to them often. I noticed that other user experience practitioners grasp onto these sources of inspiration just as much as I do. It is at that point that I wanted to create a source for words to inspire user experience designers and to provide a way to make these words visible while we work on creating the optimal user experience.

Hopefully, others will be inspired by these quotes as much as I am.
